Star Reading Chart

A is working on reading and we have started using a Star Reading Chart to help motivate and encourage her. The goal is to get her excited about reading.

Stars are earned by reading books. Different types of books earn different number of stars. (We choose stars because she is able to easily draw them into the boxes.)

Easy\Short books = 1 star.

Medium books = 2 stars.

Difficult books = 3 stars.

(Difficult level will change as rows are completed, so adjust number of stars as needed.)

I used a big piece of paper and drew boxes about 1″ x 1″.

As she completes a row she can earn a small treat\prize. When the whole chart is completed she can earn a large prize.

We are working with A to practice her reading. And we notice that if there is a break between days she is fairly resistant to it right now. So, to offer her opportunities for success I am trying to make some short interactive options. Keep reading to see some of the ways we have incorporated chalk.
