Chalk Fun

I like that after school we get snacks & then head outside to play. Today (like many days) we brought out the chalk. This is a fun way to incorporate play and learning.

Let’s start out obstacle course!

Hockey

So we had the opportunity to watch a College hockey game at our alma mater a few weeks ago with family. This was a first for S, but A’s second game. The kids enjoyed it, especially the live marching band. And after we got home it was all S could talk about. So I grabbed some cardboard box, tape, & scissors & got to work making a couple hockey sticks and a puck. I ended up putting some plastic knives between 2 pieces of cardboard before taping them together for added stability. And it worked like a charm.

Worms and Dirt

So A was looking through the 150+ Activities book and got excited & asked if we could do an activity.  I decided to modify it a bit by using Oreos & Gummy worms to make it edible.

So she & I took a walk to the grocery store  (which in itself was a blast & will be its own post soon so stay tuned) to get the things we needed. Then got straight to work when we got home.

First step was for her to figure out how to crush the Oreos.  She tried her hands,  decided was not good.  Then her feet,  which was better.  Then grabbed a container and used it as a hammer.  All in all successful (& it was fun watching her try several things & not get discouraged that it did not work).

Next we placed some worms & peach circles in & let her play as she saw fit for a bit.  Then we started hiding them, counting,  comparing, etc. Got to talk about subtracting when we ate some.  Then we even practiced tying knots with the worms!

This was a great fun activity!

Dot Jumping

Today was cold, and the next few days will be downright frigid.  So, to help burn off some energy we used our dots for a few games.  This one she stood on the pillow and had to jump to the dot of the color that I called out. *GrossMotorSkills  #PracticingColors
