With our part day school we find ourselves with some small chunks of time that are enough to do something but not enough time to really go home. Or, we need an activity to help them as I am making dinner. So I have created some File Folder Activities. These are things that they can do which are all contained within a file folder.
I printed off different activities (found a lot of ideas on Pinterest), laminated the pieces, taped them to the inside of a file folder, and then used Velcro dots so the pieces can move around but also stay in place.
We got a new Kiwi Crate the other day. This time I decided to use it as part of a larger Project Based Learning unit. So we started off with sitting on the stairs & “seeing that our house has floated into space”. Then the (pretend) phone rang and it was mission control asking A & S for their help in building a rocket ship & exploring space. In addition to their rocket ship they also built their Control center.
A really likes most aspects of art, so today we played Roll A Monster. (From Twin Dragonfly Design). But instead of using Felt, we drew our monsters.

Thanks to The Dad Lab we tried this Lego Dice Game. We have played it several times lately and the kids are enjoying this. We each picked a Lego person, and then rolled the dice. Whatever number came up we stacked that number of legos on top of each other. We took turns rolling & stacking. We kept going & saw who had the highest tower. (Only stopping when either: the tower fell, it was time to go, or we ran out of single Duplo blocks.)

As summer is coming to an end and it is getting to be coat/sweater weather here I am reminded that A & S do not have a ton of experience with buttons. So I have created a felt button chain project that incorporates buttons!
