A decided that she wanted to try painting with jelly beans. So, we got some mixed media paper, dropped different colored jelly beans into containers, added some water and tried it. The conclusion, it did not paint any color. But in the process we talked about how do we get the color to appear faster.

I really like that A, and now S, enjoy helping in the kitchen. We hosted a big dinner (12 adults and 4 kids of varying ages) for friends for St. Patty’s Day so that meant a lot of cooking. It started off with green rice crispy treats. Then we followed that up with the Perfect St. Patrick’s Day Cake (With Guinness® and Irish Cream) and then of course Corned Beef and Cabbage. Dinner was a success and there were not many leftovers!

Today we took advantage of the cold weather and headed out to try a new play place. This is the closest one to us, but it is still a bit of a drive.
First thoughts: I like how clean and welcoming it feels. The kids quickly made themselves at home. There were a wide range of activities for both of them. The owners and workers were very friendly. We even happened to be there for their cupcake/cookie decorating event. (More of that in a bit). The train table, treasure chest, and horse were some of their favorites.

Today we cleaned up our front area and collected all of the sticks that A has collected. So with these sticks we decided to build a house from the sticks. Then of course we added all of our collected evergreen branches.

We decided it was time to re-imagine our rocket ship. So, today it turned into a house, which included a chimney, doorbell, & a room with a mailbox. The mailbox is the biggest hit for both A & Saturday.
A only wanted a chimney if we could add a Santa 🙂 We had fun decorating house & making our mail.
Today I and the kids headed into Arlington, VA to visit a new play place called Nook. Check out their site here: Play Well: Nook.
Things that I really liked:
- How open & clean it feels. Their color scheme white & grey.
- That I can pretty much see my kids from any point.
- They rotate some of their areas every 8 weeks.
- They offer classes and different activities.
Areas that my kids liked the best:
- My 20 month old loved the train nook. There was a table he liked, but there was also a wall ledge track which he enjoyed!
- My 3 year old loved the ball pit .
Our takeaway: We really enjoyed our here. In fact it is the first place we have come back to the same day (after lunch). However, I feel the distance and the price is too high for me to make this, an even occasional, play place to visit.
Thank you for a wonderful day & maybe we will see you in the future!
Most of the time that we go to the craft store the kids like to sit in these wooden rocking chairs. So I decided to buy 2.
I let the kids pick out their paint colors. A of course picked blue. S picked green.
I am happy with how they look for the most part. They both could use one more coat. (But would need to buy more spray paint, so…). Also, I bought some stencils this project, but am not certain if I will end up using them. So for now, they are done.
With these rare extra nice Spring like days in February, we have gotten outside top enjoy it. I am trying hard to instill a love of nature in my kids. I feel that it is very important to care & appreciate our world. I also want them to enjoy it so they can come & love going to the National Parks, Camping, & overall love being out there.
So, we have gone exploring! Some days it is right behind the house, other days it is to some of the local parks. I try and make sure we have times that that can set the pace and the route. It is really neat to see what catches their eyes!
I would call these trips a success!
